Victor Frankl said in his bookMans Search For Meaning“Between stimulus and response, there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom.”

We can choose how we respond to situations, rather than simply react to them.

This blog, in part, is about me trying to figure out how to do just that; respond to life in a way that is skillful, not hurtful. Life is hard enough without shooting ourselves with a second arrow. So, lets introduce the players, shall we?

The Heavy: Life! I'm married and a mother of 2 awesome and anxious kids (boy did they come by that honestly). I worked as a Rad Tech at a hospital and loved it, until I became chronically ill in 2007, and had to leave the workforce. For years no doctor could tell me what was wrong. I was finally diagnosed with Chronic Sarcoidosis in 2011 (one of medicines "great imitators"), and I have found a treatment plan that is helping me feel better. W00T, thank you Stanford! Now, I'm trying to find a way to work that will accommodate my illness, while balancing my son's special needs (SPD) and my own anxiety about it all (This is not fair! This is not how my life is supposed to be!).

The Metta: Mindfulness. It's free therapy. Tools:

Metta: Loving Kindness. Let us show this to ourselves and all sentient beings.

Equanimity: Mental calmness, composure, and evenness of temper, especially in a difficult situation.

Forbearing: Patience. The state of endurance under difficult circumstances.

So, how do you live this stuff? Great question! Let's explore this together.

When you know you're the ocean, you're not bothered by the waves. ~ A Tara Brach quote paraphrased.

I enjoyed reading your posting. I especially like the quotations you have shared. That being said, I know that some of the participants were in a worrisome situation. But then, by simply providing the support and care they need, they can recover rapidly. The assistance you listed will surely make a difference.

It's really important not to react on all situations! It hard sometimes respond to, but... it's easy to learn that)

I question why funhouse-like grocery stores and crumbs exist. Just to vex me? I will not be vanquished!
